Last updated 12 September 2026. This notice is maintained under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and will be refined as our legal review completes.
Sit n Talk collects the minimum it needs to seat checked people at an event safely. Three promises sit above everything else: your phone number is never visible to another member, the room sees your first name only, and nothing you say at an event — including your feedback — is used in our marketing. A quote may appear on our own site only if we ask you first, and it appears unattributed.
What we collect, why, who sees it, and for how long
| DATA | PURPOSE | WHO CAN SEE IT | KEPT FOR |
|---|---|---|---|
| First name, email, age band | Your account and how we reach you | The people at your event (first name and initial only), your Chair | Until you delete your account |
| Gender | Counted, so we can see whether our events skew one way and act on it. It never decides who sits with you and is never shown to anybody at your event (D-068) | Sit n Talk, in aggregate | Until you delete your account |
| Phone number (required to apply) | So your Chair can call you to confirm your seat and the details | Your Chair, and our team while working your request — never anybody at your event, never chat, never another member, never exported | Deleted with your account |
| Verification outcome | That you are who you say. Checked on a call — LinkedIn shown live, an ID shown to the camera, never sent to us | Our team only | Status only. No document is ever uploaded or stored |
| LinkedIn URL, role, company, cluster, seniority | Professional matching | The people at your event, your Chair. Never collected or shown on the Casual track | Until you delete your account |
| The problem you bring | How the conversation starts | The people at your event, your Chair | Until you delete your account |
| Preferences — interests, language, availability, areas you can get to, food, tolerance | Seating you well and choosing venues everybody at the event can reach | The matcher, your Chair | Until you delete your account |
| Chair notes | Safety and seating decisions. These exist and you are entitled to know they do | Your Chair, our team | 12 months, then deleted |
| Stage feedback | Safety and seating — never marketing | Your Chair, our team | 12 months |
| Reports | Safety | Your Chair, our team | 24 months |
| Chat messages | Coordinating an event you are at | The people at that event, your Chair | Anonymised if you delete your account; purged 6 months after your Season ends |
| Payment records | Legal and tax obligations | Our team | 8 years (statutory), anonymised to an internal ID |
Deleting your account
Deletion is self-serve and confirmed by a code to your email. The moment you confirm, you disappear from every screen another member can see, and your phone number is hard-deleted immediately. Everything else is purged or anonymised within 30 days. Payment records alone survive, anonymised, because tax law requires it.
Consent
Each purpose above is consented to separately, with a version and timestamp, when you provide the data. There is no gender-preference control anywhere in the product, and gender is never an input to seating on the Professional track.
Where your data lives
In India (our database runs in Mumbai). Our processors are Supabase (database and authentication), Resend (transactional email) and Vercel (hosting). We run no advertising pixels and no fingerprinting, and no analytics identifier attaches to you before you consent.
Who we are
Sit n Talk is a product of Corporate Thalam, the business that runs it. Your data is held by Corporate Thalam for Sit n Talk and for nothing else, and every payment for a seat is made to Corporate Thalam’s bank account through your own UPI app. The app never asks for a card or a bank detail and stores none; what reaches Corporate Thalam is what your UPI app sends with the payment, and we keep the payment reference to match it to your seat, nothing more.
